Adrian Newey to Ferrari: “Poor” Carlos Sainz’s Biggest Loss After Frederic Vasseur Pushes Spaniard Out Says Ex Ferrari Boss

“It’s not the driver, it’s the car”—this is a very common sentiment in Formula 1. As Carlos Sainz Jr. reaches the peak of his career, he’s replaced by Lewis Hamilton. Carlos Sainz is the underdog driver who is thought to be a strong competitor to rival Max Verstappen’s world championship title. However, after Ferrari, there are many speculations that he is moving to Audi. But the timing for his replacement could not come at a more awkward time.
Recently, Adrian Newey has been rumored to leave Red Bull and follow Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. This is a chance that Newey has been keeping on the sideline for over 20 years and maybe it’s time to head to Maranello for him. However, this is not great news for Carlos Sainz as he could have shown his true skills in a car designed by a 6-time world champion engineer. This point was highlighted by an F1 pundit who has more than a little information on the affairs of Ferrari, having been a general manager for the team in the past.

Now that Carlos Sainz has lost his Ferrari seat, he will need to look for a new team to join. Things would have been perfect for him if Ferrari had not decided to go with Lewis Hamilton in 2025, as he would have had a strong chance at the world championship title if Newey joined the team. However, the harsh truth is that Carlos Sainz will now miss out on a chance to drive a car that was made for world champions. So what does F1 Pundit Peter Windsor have to say about this?

During a podcast segment of Live F1 Chat with Peter Windsor, a note stating, “So Horner will need to deal not only without Newey but also a new engine. Quite a big bite” surfaced in his chat. To this, he replied, “Yeah, well, maybe Christian will think, “Oh, I’ve had enough of all this stuff and going to do something else. Who knows? Anything could happen.” I keep—I’m going to repeat my point, though. If he [Newey] does go to Ferrari, my heart bleeds for Carlos Sainz.”
Explaining his feelings towards the Spaniard, he further added, “I mean, imagine what that must be like, walking out of Maranello for the last time, knowing that two days later Adrian Newey’s about to join the team and do a brilliant racing car for them.” Working with Adrian Newey is something almost every F1 driver would love to have the opportunity to do. What’s more heartbreaking is that not only did Sainz lose his seat in Ferrari, but also his chance of driving a Newey Engineered Single Seater.

Windsor extended his empathy, stating, “Oh, poor Carlos. He doesn’t deserve that.” Only to share some food for thought for the rest of the grid, saying, “On the other hand, if Adrian goes to Audi, Carlos Sainz, Audi Maga—wouldn’t that be amazing? Wouldn’t it be amazing if Adrian went to Audi and Audi ran Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz?”
Having Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz back together in a team like 2015 would be amazing for the sport and its fans. And that might become the most dominant team if the pilots are in the cockpits of the right cars. With that said, what do you think the future of Formula 1 will bring in 2025?
