In the past few weeks, rumors have cropped up suggesting that Mick Schumacher could make his F1 debut with Haas next year. If that were to happen, Mick’s uncle, Ralf Schumacher, a former F1 driver himself, believes that it would be a great place for his nephew to begin his F1 career.

At Haas, the 21-year-old won’t be expected to deliver massive results or accumulate points by the bucket load. Moreover, the current state of the team means the bar is pretty low. Mick could learn the chops of F1 racing here before perhaps becoming a future Ferrari driver.

Ralf said (translated by Google), “At the moment everyone is talking about Haas, and they are talking about making a rookie team. If that is the case, it is certainly a good start.”

Mick is touted to be partnered up with fellow F2 title rival, Nikita Mazepin. The former currently leads the F2 Drivers’ Championship standings with 191 points. The latter sits in sixth place with 140 points to his name.

The aforementioned two are the leading candidates to replace the already axed Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen for 2021.

The American team has only managed a dismal three points from the 2020 campaign, and it looks as though they’ll be competing with Williams for the title of the wooden spoon at the back of the grid next year. This is also why Ralf is slightly skeptical about the deal.

He said, “You also know where Haas is now.

“The engine is still an issue for next year.

“In Imola, you saw again that there are deficits. You can only hope that the package will be better and you will have a better car, with which you can go further ahead than Haas does this year.”

Uncle Ralf advises Mick Schumacher to stay focused on F2 for now

With another four races (two sprint and two feature races) to go in the F2 calendar and with Callum Ilott only 22 points behind him, young Schumacher can scarcely afford to kick back and take it easy, for a championship is on the line.

Ralf said, “On the other hand, it is now important for Mick to finish Formula 2. He still has two races (2 venues) ahead of him. The rest will come naturally.”

An F2 championship will surely be more than enough for him to get a seat with Haas next year. Either way, F1 fans can’t wait to see Schumacher junior in action, mixing it up with the big boys on the F1 grid next year.
