Adrian Newey is in a strange position at Red Bull. After his resignation, Team Principal Christian Horner stripped him of all F1 responsibilities, starting with the Miami GP, but the technical mastermind is still working on the RB17 Hypercar. Despite his rumored rift with Horner, Red Bull has announced a grand reveal of the RB17 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
After the Miami GP, Horner confirmed that Newey is not being included in any of Red Bull’s F1 activities. “In Miami, Newey did not participate in any weekend briefings except for the one on the strategy,” Horner said. He even emphasized that Newey “has no access to any data and is not drawing any pieces.”
Only a few days after this, Horner has heartily commended Newey’s efforts with the RB17. This would be Newey’s final creation for Red Bull. They will reveal the two-seater Hypercar with a glorious V10 engine at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. “We are excited to debut the RB17 to the public for the first time and couldn’t think of a better world stage than the Goodwood Festival of Speed,” Horner said in Red Bull’s statement.

“The RB17 exudes rarity and engineering excellence,” he added, praising Newey’s genius. “We’ve channeled everything we know about racing into making the ultimate performance car and can’t wait for the public to see the result.”

Successful reviews of the RB17 would be the perfect farewell gift for Newey. Horner’s ‘power struggle’ had negatively affected the former Red Bull CTO. Ex-Haas Boss Guenther Steiner even recently shined a light on Newey’s shock exit.

Guenther Steiner reveals the true reason behind Adrian Newey’s exit
Ever since the Christian Horner investigation began, Red Bull has been in turmoil. Though their on-track performance remains consistent, the same cannot be said about the internal environment. Guenther Steiner too suspects that the “friction” within the Milton Keynes outfit had a role to play in this move.
“It is a little bit like the Lewis [Hamilton] thing, that did surprise me, but am I shocked? No,” Steiner told RN365. “Adrian was there a long time, and it is just one of the things with all the stuff which happened at the beginning of the year. I don’t know the details of it and maybe there is some friction there. He just decided that ‘I want to do something else before I retire’ because he is still good.”

Despite such theories, Horner has maintained his stance about his “good relationship” with Newey. Newey, meanwhile, is already closely linked with Ferrari for a 2025 move. If that indeed does pan out, Red Bull could be in more trouble than just dealing with their technical leader’s exit.
