Despite having a contract with the Silverstone-based team for next season, Perez is rumored to be the one who will have to bow out and make way for the rumored signing of Sebastian Vettel.

The rumors have kept the Mexican and his agent on their toes. Recently it was reported that Checo may move back to his former team, Sauber, now known as Alfa Romeo.

However, the boss of the Swiss team, Frederic Vasseur, doesn’t want to be bothered with any driver transfer talk whilst in the middle of a busy season.

“The priority is to get back into running order rather than discussing 2021 with the drivers.”

Moreover, the boss of the Hinwil-based outfit doesn’t think that there will be any new movements in the driver market, at least in the near future.

He said, “The market will not evolve in the coming weeks. At least concerning the factor all eyes are poised on. We focus on the job we have to do, and (the rest) we’ll see later.”

Well, it’s good to see that they have got their priorities right. After only two points from the first three races, it is imperative for Alfa Romeo to focus on what has gone wrong so far and work on how they can improve it.

The only team behind them on the Constructors’ Championship table is Williams. And that is certainly not the kind of company they’d want to be in.

As for Perez, he too is likely to dedicate his full focus to the season ahead. He’ll want to showcase to the higher-ups at Racing Point that canceling his contract may not be such a good idea.

Maybe a podium or two will help the Mexican silence any rumors about him making way for Vettel. He certainly has the car that is capable of getting him podium finishes at his disposal.

But whether he can unlock its full potential is something that remains to be seen.
