With a dominant 2022 season, Red Bull are having a dream run. Max Verstappen could well be one race away from winning the championship. But Helmut Marko wants the Dutch driver to push for records now.

We still have six races to go. But Max Verstappen already has one hand placed on the World Drivers’ Championship trophy. He is having a dream run with 5 consecutive wins now. The next race, the Singapore Grand Prix, will, however, be a nice challenge for him. With a track where straight line speeds do not matter that much, it would be interesting to see how Red Bull adapts. However, any result apart from P1 will not please Helmut Marko.

Helmut Marko wants Max Verstappen to push for long-standing records

Verstappen has bagged 11 wins in the 2022 season so far. The record for most wins in a season is 13, held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. The other record up for grabs for the Red Bull driver is for most consecutive wins. Sebastian Vettel currently holds the record with 9 straight victories.

Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko said to Sky Deutschland, “Max is 11 wins and there are still six races to go. The record is 13 and it would be nice to be able to bring it to 14.” (translated using Google Translate)

Team Principal Christian Horner, however, took a more clear-headed approach. While he joked about doling out the same suffering to Toto Wolff that he himself has been subjected to before the 2021 season, he is wary of Ferrari’s pace and Mercedes’ resurgence of late.

He said, “the team is doing very well at the moment, but Ferrari is fast and Mercedes is getting back on its feet”.

Knowing about Max’s fighting spirit, nobody will be surprised if he does go for these records and even breaks them.

Sebastian Vettel’s long-standing records

Sebastian Vettel had a gem of a 2013 season. Such was the German’s dominance that he equaled Michael Schumacher’s record of 13 wins in a season. Not just this, he set the record for most consecutive wins in a season.

It is worth mentioning that Vettel set these records in a season that had 19 scheduled races. Schumacher Sr., who is the joint record holder for most wins in a season, achieved the feat in 2004 that had 18 scheduled races.

Max is more than capable of taking on both the records this year with a total of 22 races. To the ones who thought that with six races to go and the title almost already decided, the next six races will be a dull affair, there’s still a lot more to stay for.
