Yuki Tsunoda surprised many when he made his debut in F1. While he started the season on a high and still shows impressive pace sometimes, he has not been consistent in his performance. This is his rookie season in the sport, and his team boss Franz Tost believes the AlphaTauri driver needs time to develop as an F1 driver.

Tsunoda has claimed nine points in nine races while his teammate Pierre Gasly is way ahead with 39 points under his belt. And even though the Japanese driver has crashed his AlphaTauri too many times this season, Tost is confident that Yuki will learn from his mistakes and cut down on the errors.

F1 has understandably become a more complicated sport over the years, and thus, the AlphaTauri team boss believes that drivers like Tsunoda need more time in the sport to develop as drivers.

Yuki is improving really well and the complete process is absolutely in the right direction,” said Tost.

“You can’t expect that a rookie knows everything from the very beginning onwards. That’s why I always say a young driver needs three years to understand this complicated Formula 1 because Formula 1 has become much more complicated than it was years before.
