Alpine is split between the choice of Fernando Alonso or Oscar Piastri. But the Alpine boss, Otmar Szafnauer, has opened up about the timing of the final decision on this front. He says they will make the final decision around the British Grand Prix. Mid-July is when the team will have a decision on the future of these two drivers ready. Until then, it’s anybody’s guess!

Not an easy one, as we can assume, because of the amazing form Alonso is in currently. Showing incredible pace in the Alpine, Alonso has nearly missed on huge points opportunities several times in this current season already. But with the talent that is Oscar Piastri, the team does not want him to be on the sidelines another year. They might even risk losing him as a driver if he does not get a permanent seat for the 2023 season.

“We haven’t thought that through yet, because it’s a little bit early, but around Silverstone, we will probably be talking about it.” That is all the team boss Szafnauer had to say about the future of the drivers.

However, a move for Alpine and Piastri might materialize in the current season. According to rumors, not satisfied with Nicholas Latifi, Williams might look for a change mid-season. “I haven’t considered that deeply yet, I don’t know what’s happening at Williams, but I’ve heard the rumors,” said Otmar as this might come as a perfect opportunity to give more mileage to Piastri and put the future to the test.

Incredibly linked with Red Bull as well, rumors which were quickly denied by Christian Horner. Alonso will like to continue practicing his trade in the traveling circus. We just need to wait patiently and see which team will snatch up the experienced driver for the 2023 season.
