Oscar Piastri is one of the most prominent young talents in F1 currently. He won F2 and F3 back-to-back but unfortunately could not secure a seat in Formula 1 for the 2022 season. However, Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer has hinted that the Aussie driver might race in 2023.

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the Alpine reserve driver and his future in the sport. Now, the Romanian-American engineer has hinted that we might finally see him racing next season as there is a lot of interest in the young driver.

“We’re in an enviable position in that we have got Oscar under contract for the future years. And you know we will soon start looking at what that actually means and where he’s gonna be in the future,” said the Alpine team boss. When further asked if Piastri needs to go racing in 2023, Szafnauer quickly replied, “Definitely”.

All in all, this means that we fans might soon see the young Aussie racing on the F1 grid. But the team principal did not specify the location for him in 2023.

Alpine team boss confirms Oscar Piastri’s future in F1

Szafnauer revealed he is confident that Piastri will get a seat for the 2023 season on the grid. He gave a very short answer about his future and refused to give any details regarding the topic.

“We don’t talk about the details of our contracts with the drivers and that’s something that we never do. We’re contracted with Oscar, we have some options on him, so there’s no real need to hurry that. So we’ll take our time and at the right moment, within the silly season, we’ll have a look around and make those types of decisions,” said Szafnauer.

One team that is interested in signing the F2 champion is Williams F1. Although there is no official confirmation yet, there are rumors that he will replace Nicholas Latifi at the end of the season to finally make his debut in F1. Amid all this, it is nice to see that things are finally moving in a positive direction for Piastri.
