Quite evidently, Fernando Alonso had a shaky start to his F1 return after two years away from the sport. However, after a tough start to the season, he has finally found his feet in the Alpine car. The Spaniard secured his third consecutive top 10 start by qualifying P9 at the Red Bull Ring.

Alonso has discovered his old form after recent outstanding race weekends. Having added 12 points to his driver’s championship tally from races at Baku and Le Castellet, he currently sits at P11 in the driver’s standings five points ahead of his teammate, Esteban Ocon.

Alpine’s sporting director Alan Permane revealed that two-time world champion has never once shown tantrums or blamed the team or car, and he thinks that is precisely why Alonso has seen an improvement in recent times.

What did Alan Permane say?

“There were some struggles and instead of having any tantrums or hissy fits or anything he looked to himself, he never once blamed the car or the team,” said Permane.

“He said to me, I need to prove I need to do this, I need to be better. And he said in the office and he said in the press as well. And that’s what he does, what he’s done. So it’s not I don’t think he’s finished that process yet.

“He still is still there, still building his team with these guys around him and doing a great job with results like this, today,” concluded Alan.

 Fernando Alonso hopes to bring home points for Alpine

With Esteban Ocon starting in the bottom five, Alpine would expect their veteran driver to bring home some points for the Enstone-based team.

The two-time world champion secured P9, but will start at P8 after AlphaTauri‘s Yuki Tsunoda received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Valtteri Bottas.

Fernando Alonso would certainly look to build on his recent solid performances when he goes into the Styrian Grand Prix expecting a third consecutive top 10 finish after P6 at Baku and P8 at Circuit Paul Ricard.
