Every aspect of life has two outlooks, one positive and one negative. For some, worldwide fame and recognition are a blessing. However, for Alpine man Pierre Gasly, it has become a curse. The Frenchman has been part of the F1 circus since 2017 when he was 21. Now at 27, he’s a household name and is one of the most recognizable faces on the planet. This is exactly what has become the bane of his existence.

Some embrace the fandom but Gasly is seeing the downside. The Alpine man is not a fan of being followed around by a group of admirers wherever and whenever he steps foot in the outside world. Gasly made this confession of being troubled by the lack of privacy in an exclusive with The Athletic.

“I’m less comfortable going in places with crowds, which I’ve always enjoyed. I’m the type of guy that I always used to like to have that freedom and do anything that I wanted and do anything that I liked, and go to any place that I like,” Gasly said. “And now I can see that, okay, I know if I show up there, I’m not going to have any privacy because I’m going to be stopped every two meters, or I won’t be able to be myself because people are going to be taking pictures or videos all the time, the Frenchman added while sharing his plight.

This feature of modern-day F1 where a driver’s life is not private and they don’t have any privacy, among others, is troubling Gasly. This inability to step out without being stopped every 2 meters has become an everyday problem and one can only sympathize with the Frenchman’s predicament of not being able to enjoy quiet private time with his loved ones in a public setting. What’s the solution? Well, Gasly has an answer to that as well.

Pierre Gasly reveals how he tackles intruding fans in public places

We have seen many celebrities take extreme actions to avoid interactions in public places like Daniel Radcliffe walking his dozen dogs and Leonardo DiCaprio using elaborate disguises. However, Gasly’s approach is simpler and perhaps not as effective but it conveys the message to most fans.

Gasly also revealed how he sits facing a wall or whoever is accompanying him during public outings to avoid interactions with his fans. “These are just simple stuff, which I never had to think about in my life. I’d rather do that and make sure that I enjoy a lunch or dinner with a person that I have in front of me than doing the other way around and having someone coming, even if it’s every five or 10 minutes or seeing a phone in the background, like just taking a picture,” he revealed.

Although it’s just a small price to pay for driving in the world’s premier motorsport competition. “I guess it just comes with the life I’ve chosen, and I will not give it up for anything in the world,” the Frenchman added.

Perhaps give it a few more years and he will get used to it. However, there is no way the Frenchman will not be recognized, at least until he’s part of the circus because, as much as he’d like to, no F1 driver can fly under the radar.
