The lack of women’s representation is how the sports of Formula 1 is always looked at. A white man’s sport was turned upside down by a black man who now sits at the top of all successful records. Lewis Hamilton knows what it means to come to a sport where nobody looks like you and perhaps that is why he has been the torchbearer of the diversification of the sport. And statistics from Las Vegas GP will make the 7x champion’s heart full.

The newest addition to the race calendar is the third GP to be held in the US, i.e. The Las Vegas Grand Prix touted to be the biggest global event of the year, aiming to trump the likes of the NFL Super Bowl. With financial projections now estimated at a whopping $1.3 Billion, the event is yielding power, and now comes the time for responsibility. F1 Pundit, Vincenzo Landino has curated information from the Liberty media-owned sport to highlight the women taking part in making it a success.

He wrote, “In 2017, Liberty Media acquired F1, laying the foundation for a global phenomenon. Today, the buzz around F1 is through the roof thanks to events like the Miami GP and the upcoming Las Vegas GP racing on The Strip.”

He took to his official Twitter handle to introduce three women who’ll be playing crucial roles in the upcoming GP in Sin City. Praising the Liberty media initiative, he wrote, “Meet the women helping bring this event to life”. First on the list was Renne Wilm, who is the GP CEO, followed by Emily Prazer, who is GP’s Chief Commercial Officer, and Silvia Bellot, who will be overseeing race operations.

While this initiative is worth appreciation, another anti-diversity development has received a lot of flak from the fans and Lewis Hamilton.

While FIA was very clear on drivers not using the official Formula 1 platform to make any political, religious, or personal statement, Lewis knew that he cannot let down his fans and the gift of the platform he has and donned rainbow strips on his helmet. However, while the man is trying to spread awareness, a barbaric decision from Uganda feels like a letdown.

The Mercedes man recently reacted to a post on Instagram posted by Pubity, which highlighted the law passed by the Ugandan government, and shared it as his story. The 7x champion wrote, “As if the world doesn’t have enough problems. this is so disappointing. Uganda government you need to undo this immediately.”
