Ever since its advent, Drive to Survive has taken F1’s popularity through the roof. More so in America, where the audience felt an instant connection with the sport after watching the docuseries. The show, however, draws a lot of flak for being too basic, almost for the audience that knows virtually nothing about the sport. The person who draws the most criticism is the F1 journalist, Will Buxton. A video recently surfaced on the internet where the comedian Josh Weller hilariously took a dig at Buxton and the way he presents himself on the show. While the video left fans in splits, some defended Will for getting them hooked on F1.

DTS has not just boosted F1’s popularity in the US but also educated the masses about the sport. Lewis Hamilton, in a recent interview, told how the audience in America often asked him if F1 was the same as NASCAR. However, since DTS’ arrival, he admitted people were more aware and learned about F1.

Motorsport.com recently shared a video on Instagram of comedian Josh Weller imitating Buxton. Just like some of Will’s generic statements that he uses on DTS, Josh wrote some of his own that were outright hilarious. In the comments, some fans accused Netflix of catering only to the new F1 audience and abandoning the die-hard fans.

Others, however, came to their rescue recalling how the series helped them turn into F1 fans. Have a look at some reactions to Josh’s skit.

Some fans simply enjoyed the skit and gave their observations on the show and its format.

“Fact: DTS is written by Will Buxton 😭”

“Will buxton is me writing in essays to make them dramatic and longer😭”

“Will buxton could narrate my life and somehow I’d be convinced I was doing something special every moment”

Others pointed out how the show is meant for a newer audience who probably do not follow F1 as religiously as some existing fans have through the years.

“DTS isn’t for fans who know the sport. It’s for people who don’t know and who are interested. What Will doesn’t isn’t for you”

“We have to understand that DTS is not us. Its for the new people who dont know the Sport”
