There has been a lot of chatter in the F1 paddock since the introduction of technical directives in the middle of the season. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was implying that rival Mercedes is that one team as they have been vocal about their porpoising issues.

In his recent interview with Sky Sports, he took a subtle dig at ‘one team’ that is pushing hard to change the regulations. Many teams, including Red Bull, have called out the FIA to not change the regulations during an ongoing season.

“A significant rule change is being pushed through so that one team can make their car lower and benefit from their concept. I think the FIA president is doing the right thing to collect information. But I hope that a reasonable solution can be found because it is too late to make fundamental changes to the rules,” said Horner.

Alpha Tauri, Alfa Romeo, Haas, and Mercedes-powered Williams support Red Bull and Ferrari in the matter. It was not just Horner but also Red Bull advisor doctor Helmut Marko who also doubled down on Mercedes.

The Austrian mentioned it is “out of the question” for the rule to change to benefit only one F1 team. He also called out several other teams who’ve been supporting the claims of world champions, Mercedes.

“The teams that voted for it are McLaren, Aston Martin, and Mercedes. Funnily enough, all teams with Mercedes engines. Is that a coincidence? There must be valid arguments. Just emphasizing safety is not enough. And Ferrari will not accept this either,” said Marko.

It is quite interesting to hear the comments made by the two Red Bull main guys against Mercedes. But they make good points in defending their arguments and not wanting rule change in the middle of the season.

FIA meets to find some other way to solve the problems of poor poising reported by Mercedes and other teams. It would be unfair for the other teams on the grid to change according to the rules after they have adapted themselves pretty well. Let’s see what the governing body does in the coming months regarding all the noises from the teams on the issue.
