“And Then I Went to Bed” : Alex Albon’s Sad Post Podium Celebration After the Tuscan Grand Prix

Mugello witnessed Alex Albon clinch his first podium in F1. The racer was in for a fight with Ricciardo. However, after a couple of great laps, he finally managed to square past the Aussie. In the end, he finished the race P3, as Max Verstappen retired after an early crash.
Though F1 podiums are synonymous with after-parties and celebration, Albon’s first in F1 was rather dull. He recalls the Sunday after the race, which was nothing special.
Alex Albon had a ‘tragic’ Sunday evening after his first F1 podium.

“I had a candlelit dinner for one; I literally I treated myself to a T-bone steak and a tiramisu, and then I went to bed. It was quite tragic,” declared the young Anglo-Thai driver.
Quite tragic indeed! The pomp and show were nowhere near Albon on his achievement. This is a testament to the fact that the life of F1 drivers may not always be the way we imagine it.

“We had to do a filming day at a go kart track on the Monday, so I had to stay over in Italy. I was at the hotel which I was staying in all weekend at Mugello… and I was completely alone… Actually, there was a couple next to me, who didn’t even know me.”
The Red Bull racer is definitely new to the grid. Yet going unnoticed is not a reaction that F1 drivers are accustomed to. Nonetheless, our advice to the sorrowful story of Albon is to not lose heart.

Regarding his past issues with his car, Albon clarified a few doubts. He stated that he was slowly finding his bearings and settling into the RB16.
“It was feeling like Spa and Monza was getting better, and it felt like I was making progress, so to be able to have a weekend where it felt like we got the result we deserved – it’s just nice.

“And obviously from my side of the garage, these guys had been off that podium for a while, so it was nice to give them something,” Albon added.
