F1 is in many ways a rich man’s sport. The insane amount of cash that needs to be forked out through the karting years and junior formulas is mind-boggling. Humble beginnings for George Russell

George Russell is one of the most talented drivers on the current grid. The Mercedes driver is also the 2018 F2 champion and has showcased his talents on the main stage since making his debut in 2019. However, unlike most of the drivers on the current grid, Russell is not from a wealthy family.

Steve Russell was a small-time business owner dealing in beans and peas. He used whatever cash he earned to help fund George’s karting career.

After multiple notable karting wins, Mercedes came in to help bankroll Russell’s junior formula career. The team played a massive role in Russell’s rise to the top.
