‘Carlando’ proved to be one of F1’s most entertaining pairings–thanks to McLaren. The Papaya team might not have given us the best of the moments on the grid, but they have blessed us with the duo of Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz. The two drivers became popular with fans during their time as teammates at McLaren in 2019 and 2020 for their relationship away from the track. Despite being rivals on the track, and off track, the two shared a great friendship and blessed us with many bromance moments. They played board games, sang songs, had kitchen nightmares, and generally rubbed off habits on each other. And one of them is wearing bucket hats.

Ahead of the 2022 British GP, the Brit Norris had donned a Union Jack bucket hat while conducting interviews in front of fans. Just then, Lewis Hamilton, who was on a track tour, hopped off his vintage car and sneaked up on Norris in an attempt to grab the hat, and both drivers enjoyed a hilarious moment. This year, ahead of the Spanish GP, homeboy Sainz wore a similar hat with red chilies on it. Hamilton noticed it and had another hilarious bucket moment this year as well but with the Spaniard, of course.

In a video posted on Instagram that’s been doing rounds recently, Hamilton can be seen looking at the picture with a wide smile on his face. When a reporter asked what he was smiling at, the 38-year-old replied, “I’ve got a great picture of Carlos! I took a great picture of Carlos earlier.” Later, showing the picture, Hamilton remarked: “It’s the bucket hat. It’s the worst bucket hat ever

After a disappointing start to the 2023 season, the Brackley-based team often looked downbeat, especially Lewis Hamilton. However, the new upgrade package came as the light at the end of the tunnel for Mercedes. With the upgrades working beautifully, the 7x Champion finally returned to normalcy during the Spanish Grand Prix. On the race day, Hamilton once again emerged as Max Verstappen’s nearest challenger from P5. Although he was 24 seconds behind Red Bull in second position, there were clear signs that his long period of difficulty is nearing an end. On the other half of Mercedes’ day of resurgence, it was third-placed George Russell, who weaved his way from P12 to finish on the podium with his teammate.

Given how Mercedes has finally jolted from slumber and delivered ‘mega’ results, both the drivers looked very pleased, especially Hamilton. Speaking to the media after the race, Hamilton beamed with a smile and said, “We definitely didn’t expect to have the result we had today, so I just really want to take my hat off to my team and say a big, big thank you to everyone back at the factory for continuing to push and bring us a little bit closer to the Bulls. They are still a bit ahead, but we’ll keep chasing them down. This is an amazing result.”
