Lewis Hamilton makes headlines and his first teammate and oldest foe doesn’t comment? That’s unthinkable! Keeping up with his antics, Fernando Alonso mocked Hamilton’s “childhood dream” to join Ferrari during the launch of the AMR24. The Spaniard also talked about his experience with the team and spoke about the special feeling one gets driving for the iconic Italian team donning the sparkling Ferrari red.

However, the Spaniard sugarcoated his time with Ferrari because he narrowly missed out on the championship by finishing runners-up thrice with the Italian team in 2010, 2012, and 2013. The only three times he’s finished P2 in the championship in his career, all thanks to Sebastian Vettel. He subtly hinted at his near misses by confessing the feeling is only special when you win. However, he wished his old frenemy well and confessed he might bring the X-factor to Ferrari.

“It was not his childhood dream 12 months ago, no? Or two months ago, I guess. It was a different dream,” Alonso mocked Hamilton’s statement as quoted by Autosport. “I hope he enjoys the experience. I think it’s a very special team. But it’s more special when you win. It’s few years already [since] they have a very fast car and they were fighting for big things.”

“Maybe Lewis can bring that extra to fight for the championship because the car is there. At the end of last year, even with a very dominant Red Bull car, Ferrari [was] still able to match the lap time and to be faster than them in most of the qualifying. So, I think the car should be fast enough,” he concluded.

We can’t help but agree with Alonso about Ferrari’s current state. The Italian team does look to be on the upward trajectory and Hamilton might’ve made a perfect gamble to secure his eighth championship title.

Additionally, if we believe the rumors, the old teammates can be locking horns at the front of the grid again.

Rumors suggest Toto Wolff planning to replace Lewis Hamilton with Fernando Alonso

Alonso is known for his frivolous nature when it comes to Formula 1 teams. In his two-decade-long F1 career, Alonso has switched teams eight times. To understand how the Spaniard operates, we can recall the nature of his move from Alpine to Aston Martin. The two-time world champion does not wait around and jumps on any opportunity he sees fit.

We might see another example of that in the coming year as Alonso might give Aston Martin the same treatment he gave Alpine.

This time it will be in favor of Mercedes. According to multiple reports, the Spaniard was approached by Toto Wolff as Hamilton’s replacement. We can’t think of a better driver to replace the outgoing Brit and if Aston Marting doesn’t perform and the W15 does, we just might see this scenario come to life.

Reports suggest, “Ted Kravitz reports that Fernando Alonso’s inner circle and Toto Wolff had contact in the last few hours. Alonso is awaiting to see Aston Martin‘s progress in 2024 before deciding anything.”
