“What the f***? Are you stupid?” said Lando Norris to his engineer as McLaren made a decision based on a rather bizarre analysis at the Dutch GP. Tempers seemed to be flying high as the heavens opened right at the beginning of the race. However, according to him, things were not as they were made to look. Because of his latest statements on the same, this particular instance reminded us of a very similar one involving Fernando Alonso and how he had then slammed F1 for portraying him as a villain.

Months ago, the Aston Martin driver had shoved an earful to the media and F1 for drawing a false picture for the audience. An image that termed him the bag guy of the sport. The world of F1 is now having a bit of deja vu as Norris, who blasted his team for a “stupid” decision has done the same. When it started pouring at Zandvoort, most drivers pitted for the Inters. Surprisingly, McLaren told their talisman that he was quicker on the Softs than his rivals on the Inters. That’s when the Briton uttered the profanities on the team radio. As it turns out, the talk about it in the media was much ado about nothing.

In the Thursday press conference ahead of the Italian GP, Norris addressed the topic, saying “I always sound like I’m crying or moaning on the radio I don’t know why, I hate it. I feel like I’m really relaxed and chilled in the car, but I’m always the opposite when I listen to myself on the radio.

The adrenaline is always high in Formula 1 with the car zooming around the circuit at speeds of 200+ mph. If an element of contradiction between the driver’s insights and the team’s is added to it, there can be moments when passion turns into anger. That is what happened with Lando Norris at Zandvoort. But, they seem to have sorted out the issue and are focusing on what matters.

Ahead of the Italian GP, Norris told Sky Sports, “The team know how I work, and when I’m performing well, when I’m not, and they know how I work – simple as that. As long as they know that and I know how they do things and how they speak to me and how we interpret things, then that’s all that from my side is needed.”

All’s well that ends well. Showing great professionalism, they sorted the matter amongst themselves. This is the kind of teamwork that wins races and championships.
