Aston Martin has been grappling with developmental hurdles, lagging behind the continuous advancements made by the grid’s leading teams such as Mercedes and McLaren. The Silverstone-based outfit has been proactive, experimenting with updates to the AMR23, yet the upcoming Sprint format in Brazil limits their testing window, adding to their strategic conundrums. As Formula descended upon the vibrant city of Sao Paulo for the upcoming Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso found himself in the limelight for reasons other than his on-track performance.

The Spanish driver, known for his dogged determination and racing prowess, has recently been the subject of intense speculation regarding a potential shift to Red Bull Racing. Post-Mexico Grand Prix, the paddock buzzed with rumors of Alonso’s supposed departure to Red Bull, catalyzed by a contentious social media post from journalist Albert Fabrega last weekend, which quickly went viral.

Fernando Alonso draws the line

The two-time world champion’s discontent with the situation was palpable. “I don’t enjoy it (the rumors). All the rumors are coming from people that are not in this room, who are just here to make fun and I think it’s not funny when they play with anything,”  Alonso’s commitment to Aston Martin has been commendable, yet his loyalty has been called into question by the rumor mill—something he plans to address sternly.

“But I will make sure there are consequences,” he added, a stern warning to those perpetuating such narratives. As the truth laid bare by Alonso’s rebuke, Fabrega returned to the digital arena with a public apology, acknowledging his misstep and expressing regret for any offense caused.

Speaking to F1-Insider.com, Marko said, “As for the rumors about Alonso: I can well imagine that Alonso spread them himself because his results with Aston Martin have been very disappointing recently after the brilliant start to the season. Marko suggested a strategic ploy by Alonso, utilizing media to sway public opinion, something he insinuated was not a first for the driver.
