Iconic brands affiliated with Formula 1 and its teams have a way of making themselves seen through car liveries. Be it McLaren’s Gulf livery at the 2021 Monaco GP, or Red Bull’s Honda livery at the 2021 Turkish GP, the one-off liveries are just as iconic as the partnerships. While some of these partnerships have ended (both of the aforementioned ones, sadly), some are just getting started. And Aston Martin is the team to welcome the latest iconic brand back to F1.

On Wednesday, Valvoline Global—valued approx. at $5.21 billion—became Aston Martin’s official lubricant partner. To honor this partnership, the Silverstone outfit will run a one-off livery on both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll‘s cars, featuring Valvoline’s iconic blue and red colors at this weekend’s British GP—the team’s home race. While talking about this partnership, as quoted by Marca.com, Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack said, “From this weekend’s British Grand Prix, Valvoline Global will provide race-proven lubricants for our AMR23 to help boost performance. This long-term partnership with Valvoline Global will also benefit our new Works Power Unit partnership with Honda from 2026 with custom lubricants.” [translated via Google]

Valvoline isn’t the only iconic brand to make an F1 return with Aston Martin. At the end of 2021, Honda—providing engines to Red Bull and AlphaTauri—left the sport, only to announce its return in 2026 to provide Aston Martin its engines. According to Krack, Valvoline and Honda working together will make a great combination that’ll help the team drive forward further.

The partnership would be mutually beneficial—with Valvoline products aiming to enhance Aston’s on-track performances and the lubricant company’s branding on the Aston chassis helping its global reach. According to the CEO of Valvoline Global, Jamal Muashsher, “This is the beginning of a powerful and dynamic partnership. We are excited to be a part of the team’s journey and look forward to our shared successes and innovations.”

Aston Martin has already made a massive step in the right direction this season, competing for P2 in the championship, aided by its new factory. With this new partnership, it aims to get closer to the front of the field. With the partnership commencing at the British GP, marked by a one-off livery, Aston Martin won’t be the only team with a different livery at Silverstone.

McLaren is bringing back its iconic chrome livery

The British GP is not just home to Aston Martin. McLaren, based in Woking, calls it its home race too. And to celebrate its 60-year history and pay tribute to a fan-favorite livery, McLaren, in partnership with Google, is bringing back the chrome livery that it ran from 2006 to 2014.

While discussing the livery, McLaren CEO Zak Brown said, as quoted by F1.com, “It’s no secret that racing fans love McLaren’s classic chrome livery. Google Chrome wanted to bring back elements of this iconic livery to celebrate our team’s history at the British Grand Prix, and we’re excited to be able to give our fans what they want. I’m sure this livery will bring back great memories for many of our fans, and I can’t wait to see it out on track at our home race.”
