Sergio Perez has enjoyed an incredible run of form over the course of this season. However, in spite of recording a series of incredible and consistent performances on-track, the Mexican will be left out of the Racing Point roster come 2021.

Perez drew parallels between his situation and a messy divorce. Perez admitted that being with a team that had no intention of maintaining ties with him was quite tragic.

“It’s really strange,” he is quoted as saying by PlanetF1. “It’s like being with a wife that you already know in two months’ time you’re going to get divorced.

“I’ve been here for so many years before in similar positions, different positions, it’s just part of the game.

“I come here, I do my job on-track and off-track, I have to make sure that I deliver 100%,” the Mexican said. “This team have been tremendous to me.

“We’ve been together for seven years. I have a lot of friends. So I just want to finish my career with them on a high and that we always remember our time with a lot of pride.”

Perez finds himself in P5 following the race weekend at Nurburgring. Considering the fact that he missed out on two races this year and is still in the mix for the Top-5 is a testament to his overall performance this season.

Perez sounded confident that his present team will be indomitable next year, strong enough to mount a challenge to the top-field teams. He said, “I don’t know but I’m leaving [before] next year. I think they definitely have a big potential coming up.

“I think they are definitely going to be mixing up with the big boys already from next year onward,” Perez said.

He also revealed that he is in talks with other teams that are yet to reveal their line-ups for the next season. “There have been some talks with the teams that don’t have confirmed line-ups for next year,” he said.

“And there has been some progress here and there. But I don’t have anything yet to report, I haven’t signed anything. I guess by next month or so I’ll be making a decision whether it’s here or somewhere else,” Perez cleared.

Perez has a myriad of options to choose from right now. He could end up in Red Bull if Alex Albon fails to impress his team this year.

If a seat with the big boys seems like a distant dream, he still has teams like AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo, and Haas that are yet to sign a contract with either of their drivers.

Therefore, it would be nothing less than a travesty if he were left out in the cold for the 2021 season.
