Sergio Perez, despite the convincing performances over this season, is left without a drive for 2021. During an episode of Drive to Survive, the Mexican predicted that he might end up without a team at some point in his career, which is eventually how it turned out.

Season 1 of the Drive to Survive aired on Netflix in early 2019, which focussed on the 2018 season of the F1 World Championship. During the season, Lawrence Stroll took over the functioning of Racing Point. Eventually, his son, Lance Stroll, replaced the Frenchman Esteban Ocon.

Perez starred in one of the episodes where he mentions that he might face his former teammate, Ocon’s fate sooner or later. “It’s just the lack of opportunities that this sport offers, you know? We only have twenty seats,” Perez said.
“It just happens, you know? One day it’s gonna be me,” the Mexican added.
Perez met with a shock this season when Racing Point decided to leave the Mexican out of the team post-2020 season. Ever since then, Perez has been in conversation with a lot of teams, but he is yet to find a seat for next season.

Both the Ferrari-powered teams, Haas and Alfa Romeo, have not revealed their driver line-ups for 2021. But drivers like Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott might be the major contenders for the seats in either of the teams.
Apart from the mid-field teams, Perez could also have a shot at Red Bull as their current driver, Alex Albon, has been struggling since he joined the team.

Sergio Perez is seemingly calm at the moment. “Who knows really, nothing is signed yet. But definitely, there has been some progress so we will see in the coming weeks,” Perez said.
“As I said before, I think at this stage no one is in any hurry, not the teams, not myself. So let’s wait. Still, [there’s] a long way to go.”
Perez enjoyed an incredible weekend at Sochi last weekend; he put forth a convincing performance by qualifying in P4. Despite suffering a bad start to the race, he found his way back up and crossed the line in P4.
If the Mexican manages to put in performances like this consistently, he could be in for a surprise towards the end of the season.
