As Ferrari aim to bounce back from a nightmare campaign in 2020, and ace driver Charles Leclerc will be expected to lead the charge. Although the team may not admit that he is the number 1 driver, by virtue of having more experience behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Leclerc will be expected to hit the ground running.

The Monegasque spoke about the necessity of delivering clean performances on a consistent basis and priding Ferrari over any personal rivalry.

Leclerc was one of the best drivers on the grid last year. Despite driving the lackluster SF1000, the Monegasque kept eking out impressive results, including two podiums. However, for someone as talented as Leclerc who wishes to improve more and more, consistency will be a key part of his gameplan.

Prior to Ferrari’s 2021 car reveal, he said, “At the end, what’s most important is that Ferrari wins.

“There’s so much going on in a race, strategy, tire management, fuel management. That’s all very, very important. That’s all performance related. You need to be on it.

“That’s what I have been working on. I try to be as quick as possible and aggressive.”

Having beaten a four-time world champion in the same machinery last year, Charles will be brimming with confidence. However, this time his teammate will be Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard, much like Leclerc himself, is a perfectionist and a hardworking driver who is hungry for success.

This may perhaps be the most entertaining teammate rivalry to focus on in 2021. Both drivers have been tipped for success. But Leclerc edges out the battle when it comes to sheer talent.

However, Sainz has a greater amount of experience and has taken on some very strong teammates in Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.

Both of them would have a point to prove. But it can’t come at the cost of the team, which was sometimes the case in Leclerc’s on-track battle with Vettel during the 2019 campaign.

The duo will have to find the perfect balance between taking each other on while placing the team on the pedestal. It’ll be very tricky for them, but for fans, it should guarantee nothing but entertainment.
