F1 might see 2 new power unit manufacturers, Porsche and Audi, in the sport soon. However, the German manufacturers have two conditions for F1 and its governing body for their debut.

The German car manufacturers are close to agreeing to make their F1 debut in 2026 as PU suppliers. There are speculations that Audi might become the engine supplier for the McLaren, which means no more Mercedes power for the Woking base. Meanwhile, Porsche is trying to get Red Bull to use their power units instead of rebranded Honda power trains that the Austrian F1 team is using this season.

Including two big-name German brands, Porsche and Audi, would be huge for Formula One. However, the Volkswagen group has some conditions for F1 to accept before its subsidiary, Porsche and Audi can debut in 2026.

What are the conditions for Audi and Porsche to join F1?

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali wants these big names to join F1. It would make his administration one of the most successful ones in the sport. However, it would also bring drastic changes to the sport. Accepting the conditions of Porsche and Audi will benefit the new manufacturers. Meanwhile, it might be troublesome for those who are already in the sport.

Moreover, there is another condition that the German manufacturers put up and that is to drop the fuel capacity from the present 110 kg to something around 70-75 kg. But this would mean that the cars may not have the 1000 horsepower they have now.

What is the solution for the drop in horsepower?

The conditions of Porsche and Audi will affect the sport, especially with a drop in horsepower. However, there is a solution, and that is to use bigger batteries for the car. But this would increase the cars’ weight. The teams this season are already struggling to get their 2022 challengers’ to weigh around the minimum weight limit of 798kgs.
