Mick Schumacher had his first race in F1 at the opening round in Bahrain. However, things didn’t go as planned for the rookie as he spun around the track. The young German finished the race in 16th position.

Schumacher Jr said it was because of the cold tires that he spun off the track and admitted he wasn’t happy about it. But he hopes to learn from his mistakes for the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The Haas team didn’t have the best of times in Bahrain. Nikita Mazepin had an early retirement in the race as he crashed and Schumacher finished 16th and couldn’t grab any points for the American team in the opening race.

Mick Schumacher states that cold tires were the reason he spun

In the post-race interview, the German stated, “I’m not very happy because I made a mistake. The reason for this mistake is probably that I was too enthusiastic about handling at the start after the safety car. I have definitely learned something and will carry this learning to the next week.”

Schumacher added, “It was definitely very difficult to get the tires to hold. Tires have become very cold while the safety car is on the grid. When we started again, I focused on them and tried to raise their temperature.”

“It was very difficult and the car became unpredictable, so I made a mistake in turn four. However, things were fine after that. I had a good ride with hard tires, that was good.” the rookie concluded.

Guenther Steiner happy with the German despite not earning points

The American team didn’t finish in the top ten and hence couldn’t grab any points, but the team was happy with how his rookie German performed. Steiner said, “I’m very happy with how he did it. He improved in each stint on tyres, very good, very calm, very good communication with his team.”
