Sebastian Vettel recently announced his decision to retire at the end of the 2022 season. Having 4 World Championships, 53 race wins, and 122 podium finishes, he is one of the most prominent drivers to ever grace the sport. The fans and Formula 1 world will miss Vettel’s insight and guidance around the paddock.
As a veteran of the sport, Sebastian Vettel has often given advice and mentorship to the younger drivers on the grid. However, in a recent video, uploaded by Aston Martin on their official Twitter handle, the German was asked about the best advice he received in his career. He recalls how he was earlier left disappointed by the words of his idol, but later realized the true meaning of them.

Vettel said, “I spoke with Michael (Schumacher) when I was very young, and I don’t think if he meant to give advice, but I think he said something along the lines, ‘just enjoy yourself, just have fun’, like enjoy what you do, love what you do.”
“I was a bit disappointed in the moment because I thought you need to tell me something that, you know, I can work with, I definitely only understood after or later.”

Vettel also speaks about how he is still in touch and stays updated with the karting scene. He mentions how he followed Lando Norris and George Russell and how they are now leaving their mark in the big league. The German also feels that it is the correct time for him to retire and let the younger generation take over.
“I think after a while it’s also time to make way for the young kids,” Vettel said.

“I’m following go-karts still which is the grassroots and where I grew up as well. And I remember the days where I was sitting at grand prix weekends following the championships in go karts, and I read some names, like Lando Norris, and George Russell, and they keep popping up in the international karting events.
