BIG HIRING: Aston Martin Welcomes Former McLaren F1 Boss to Team

After closing in on their 2022 lineup, Aston Martin F1 have added a new member to their team. While Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll continue to represent the team on the tracks, the team have filled in a new role with a familiar face to improve their game.

Martin Whitmarsh will mark his return to the sport with the British team as the CEO of Aston Martin Performance technologies. With this new role, they looks to encompass the team’s F1 activities and develop their car further.

Having worked at McLaren for 25 years, Whitmarsh was the CEO of McLaren racing besides being the team principal at McLaren Mercedes. Under his leadership, the team had diversified its business activities beyond F1. He helped launch McLaren Automotive and McLaren Applied Technologies. Thus, it looks like Aston Martin has chosen a man with significant experience to take on the new role.

Aston Martin look to improve

Having played a senior role in Formula 1, Whitmarsh knows the sport thoroughly. Thus, he brings in a lot of help for Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll shared his vision for the team’s development; besides re-routing the team’s objectives, Whitmarsh has another important job.

Stroll explains the crucial objective of leading the transformation of Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team into a Formula One World Championship-winning organization within the next four to five years, and evolving it into a £1 billion business over a similar time period.”

Stroll prides himself on picking the right man for the job. “He is a proven winner in Formula One. He is, therefore, the ideal person for the job of working with me and our senior management team to lead and inspire our workforce to future success both on and off track.”

Whitmarsh is sure that he can transform the team into world champions. “I know what it takes to win in Formula One… I intend to do whatever I can to make sure that our team becomes the winning operation that Lawrence is determined that it should be.”

As the team gets ready for a future championship battle, it is a long way of progress for Aston Martin as they sit seventh on the constructor’s board.
