Ferrari are having a resurgent 2021 season after a disastrous 2020. They have huge gains this season as they are fighting with McLaren for P3 this season. However, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is not satisfied; he wants the team to fight for the title next season.

Binotto feels that despite the progress the team have made, they have to fight at the front in the 2022 season. It was earlier announced that the Italian team have focused all their resources on developing the 2022 car.

Fighting for the title next year is a must: Mattia Binotto

Speaking to Scuderia Fans, as reported by RTL, the Ferrari team boss has mentioned that the team must fight for the title next season. He also mentioned that failing to do so would mean that all the progress would be a waste.

“It is “no secret” that Ferrari wants to bring the world championship crown back to Maranello as soon as possible,” said Binotto.

“Fighting for the title next year is a must. Failing to do that would mean that we did everything wrong.

“We are the team that has collected the most points in relation to last year, that has improved the most overall. This shows that we are going in the right direction and that we are working well together,” said Binotto on the improvements made by Ferrari this season.

Ferrari team principal lays out the goals for Carlos Sainz in the second half

Carlos Sainz has impressed everyone with his performance in the Ferrari. In his debut season, the Spaniard has scored more points than teammate Charles Leclerc. But Binotto hopes that in the second half of the season Sainz can string a complete weekend together.

“What I’m expecting from him in the second half, I think he already said himself,” said Binotto.

 “He has not been capable of putting together one entire weekend, so there is always a mistake here or there. Whether it is quali, start, or in the race. So I’m expecting that he will continue learning the team, continue learning the car.

“And soon, hopefully, he will put together an entire weekend, which I think is important for him,” said Binotto.

The Spaniard will play a key role in Ferrari’s hopes to challenge for the title in 2022.
