Lewis Hamilton was tough from the get-go
Many years down the line, Buttons speaks highly of Hamilton. Hamilton was a hard nut to crack since his initial days. It wasn’t easy for Jenson himself to beat Hamilton, although he put up a respectable race chasing him and at times defeating him.
“I think he’s quite a shy character. You can probably see that. I don’t know Lewis now that well. Lewis in 2012 was an extremely talented driver, whose whole life was about racing,” he said.

“I had to work so hard to beat him, and obviously it didn’t happen all the time. But it happened enough that I was happy with what I achieved. On balance he out-qualified me, but I could race him, and use my head because it wasn’t all about driving flat-out in a Grand Prix. It isn’t now.”
Button claims Hamilton has grown considerably over the years. Around the track, he is exceptionally well and everyone swoons over his racing style.
“Lewis has learned a lot since then. He’s always looking after the tires, the fuel, the car… he knows what he’s doing. He’s in a position now where he can relax and think about other things in addition to driving the car.

“He can be very outspoken and I think it’s great that he is. It will help the sport and the diversity of the sport. Whether or not you’re a fan of Lewis as a person, you should definitely be a fan of him as a driver.
“He is exceptionally talented, and he does not play games. He will never play dirty. In fact, I think he’s the cleanest guy I ever raced against,” declared the former F1 driver.

Winning the World Championship is a coveted affair and winning it 6 times is nothing short of stupefying. Hamilton clinched the 6th World Championship last year with Mercedes and he looks well on his way to bag his 7th.
Leading the roster comfortably, Hamilton looks confident and poised to go all the way. With only 9 races covered, Hamilton’s performance has been spectacular, as it has been over the past decade. Therefore, it is a matter of time until he lifts his 7th and trains his eyes on the 8th.
