Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is on the verge of breaking an undesirable record. The Spaniard made his debut in 2015 for Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso. Since then, he has been part of Renault and Mclaren and following his impressive performance, he finally got his big break with the Red team this year. Sainz has been exceptional with his performance this year having scored 145.5 points so far this season, just behind his Monegasque teammate.

The Italian Team driver has made 139 appearances in the sport so far bagging 5 podiums and a best finish of P2. He has put up some impressive performances this year helping Ferrari claim the third spot in the Constructors’ Championship. Nevertheless, he is close to breaking an undesirable record of having most F1 points without a win, which is currently held by his former Renault teammate Nico Hulkenberg.

Carlos Sainz needs a win to save himself from an embarrassing record

With a P2 finish in Sochi this year, Sainz came close to winning his first-ever Grand Prix. However, with 517 points without a win in his bag, he will end up breaking Hulkenberg’s record if he finishes P8 or better in the upcoming race. He is on an incredible run with 13 consecutive points finish this season but he desperately needs a win to save himself from holding this embarrassing record.

Notably, Hulkenberg has 521 points in his bag without a podium finish in his long-standing career. He is currently serving as a reserve driver for the Aston Martin F1 team.
