Ferrari signed Carlos Sainz after his successful two-year stint with McLaren. Sainz, along with Lando Norris, helped McLaren to their best finish since 2012, P3. Ferrari, on the other hand, had a hard season, to say the least, as they finished P6 on the standing.

As Sebastian Vettel moves to Aston Martin, Ferrari is banking on his replacement, the Spaniard, and Charles Leclerc to help them climb on the championship standing.

In a recent interview, Carlos Sainz described his feeling during his negotiations with Ferrari. He said, “You start out by trying not to believe too much what happened when they first got in touch.

“You think they are meeting with all pilots. That’s why I tried to be very comfortable about it. I always tried to keep my focus on the moment I was present.”

Carlos Sainz looks back at his relationship with McLaren

McLaren signed the Spaniard to replace the former Spaniard champion, Fernando Alonso. After a one year contract with Renault, McLaren signed Sainz for two years. During those two years, the confidence McLaren showed in him helped him grow into a better driver.

McLaren has also been clear on their new team culture of openness and honesty. This fresh approach helped the team and the drivers significantly; both McLaren drivers claimed podiums for the team and drove the team to the top-three finish on the standing.

Carlos Sainz recalled the media attention when the partnership between him and Ferrari was announced. However, he clarified that they managed the process with McLaren very well.

“My relationship with McLaren has always been very open and comfortable. So I didn’t feel much pressure on me, or a burden on my shoulders,” he pointed out.

Ferrari has two young and exciting drivers driving for them this season. After a disappointing season, the Maranello team will hope that this new driver line up will help them improve their standing.

Maybe Sainz can help Ferrari just as he did for McLaren. What do you think?
