Carlos Sainz or Daniel Ricciardo?: Max Verstappen Predicts 2021 Ferrari Driver Lineup

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen believes Ferrari is likely to sign Carlos Sainz in 2021. The Dutchman predicted Sainz pipping Daniel Ricciardo to the prized seat for next season. Ever since Ferrari announced Vettel’s exit, many signs pointed to Sainz replacing the German at the Scuderia.

Max Verstappen picks Carlos Sainz as Ferrari’s second driver

There have been rumors, reports, gossip, and predictions. Ferrari needs a second driver for 2021 and going by the internet, it could be anyone’s. However, one particular name that’s been consistently thrown around is Carlos Sainz. According to many reports, Ferrari is considering Sainz or Ricciardo as a possible replacement.

Apparently, Ferrari has decided on Sainz for next year and may announce him very soon. Then again, this is hearsay and could turn to be completely wrong. Nevertheless, many experts and publications are touting Sainz as Ferrari’s newest acquisition.

According to the Max Verstappen, it’s unlikely for an “Italian sounding name” to join Ferrari. The Dutchman indirectly predicted Ferrar’s 2021 driver lineup and also backed Ferrari to make the right choice. Speaking to David Coulthard on an Instagram Live, Verstappen said:

The speculation was going on a bit, is he going to continue with Ferrari or not – well today it’s out, he’s not,”

“I guess also very soon we’ll find out who the replacement is going to be.

“It’s definitely not me, I can tell you. I’m at Red Bull. I saw some questions coming along if I was going to Ferrari, but I’m not.

“It is what it is. Somebody else gets an opportunity to drive now for Ferrari, and of course, it’s a great team, and I’m sure they will make the right decision about the next driver.

“Let’s see what’s going to happen there.”

When asked if Ferrari would go with a Spanish or Italian sounding name, Max tipped the former to join the Scuderia.

“I think it’s not going to be the Italian sounding name,”

“Let’s see. At the end of the day, it’s just a guess.

“We’ll have to wait and see.” Concluded Verstappen.

With all the rumors swirling around, Ferrari announcing Sainz only seems like a formality at this stage.
