Season 2 Episode 3 of Drive to Survive witnessed Carlos Sainz saying “…that will give me confidence to back to Formula 1 track, knowing that I am working more than anyone else in Formula 1”. Context: the domino effect of Daniel Ricciardo moving to Renault rendered Sainz without a seat for the upcoming season. That was a scenario much like that of today when a more successful driver’s decision left the Spaniard seatless for the next season. However, instead of playing the blame game, the 2x Grand Prix winner has decided to introspect.

A talented driver like Sainz definitely deserves a seat, but the reality of the present day is that he is without one. Déjà vu of that time at Renault is a weird coincidence, but just like the last time, the Spaniard has chosen to see the glass half full and maximize his time to better himself. Speaking to Formu1a, Sainz stated the weak point he felt in himself.

“I am confident in a more performing single-seater because this would allow us to shine a little more in the race, where we certainly struggled harder last year. With a better car, we have the chance to improve races, strategies, and overtaking, because last year I had to defend my position a lot, and I did very well in defense, but not good enough in overtaking.”

Sainz has spent almost a decade in the sport and he means business when he says there is nothing different to show to new teams/recruiters. The heartbroken man who is on a hunt for an F1 seat for next year is confident in his skill and rightly so, as he was the only non-Red Bull race winner.
