With only a few months left as a Ferrari racer, Carlos Sainz has been out on the race tracks making the most of this time. The Spaniard has delivered some brilliant performances ever since he signed on to replace the former World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Despite his records, the Scuderia decided not to renew him for 2025, as they favored Lewis Hamilton as their recruit.

His days at Ferrari are numbered as of now, but undoubtedly, his time with the Maranello outfit has yielded several memories for him to cherish. The ‘Smooth Operator’ recently appeared at an interview on El Hormiguero where he talked about one of the times when the #55 driver had borrowed the car of one of his bosses at Ferrari by accident.

Carlos Sainz recounts being sober-drunk in Miami

The Formula 1 racers might come off as really competitive and they might seem to be at each others’ necks during the Grands Prix. However, off the race track, they like to party and have great food at restaurants all around the world. When Carlos Sainz went to one such restaurant in Miami, he had an “embarrassing” incident with one of the authoritative figures at Ferrari. Carlos Sainz revealed it on El Hormiguero.

On the Spanish show where the 29-year-old was a guest, he commented, “One night I went out to dinner, returned to the hotel and everything was normal. The next day the hotel gave me the Ferrari, and I realized that it was not the one the team had given me because it was black instead of blue.” Sainz then continued by recounting how he had complained to the hotel employee that it was not his car.

However, the employee had claimed it was the car he came back from the restaurant with on the previous day. In the end, the Spaniard said, “The people at the restaurant gave me the keys to the car of one of the Ferrari bosses, so he took my car and I took his. I was embarrassed because I’m sure the hotel people thought I came back drunk.”

Carlos Sainz has several options left for the 2025 season

At the beginning of the 2024 season, a shocking turn of events had occurred all at once in the F1 town. Lewis Hamilton announced his Ferrari arrival while the team confirmed the news of their latest driver recruitment. On the other hand, Carlos Sainz declared he will be leaving Ferrari and vowed to give updates on his future moves for his fans to know. However, months have passed and there is no concrete report about the Smooth Operator’s next step in the king class of motorsports.

As of now, Carlos Sainz can choose to go for the Mercedes seat that Lewis Hamilton is leaving behind. Or he might take up a new role at Haas as Kevin Magnussen will be leaving the American team at the end of the current season. VCARB has not yet renewed its deal with Daniel Ricciardo, but even if the team bids adieu to the Australian, that seat will probably go to Liam Lawson. This leaves Aston Martin Racing where Lance Stroll’s seat is currently empty and Alpine, since Esteban Ocon will be leaving after this season. Williams might also be on the lookout for a recruit, as will Kick Sauber for the next year.

With so many roles before him, we are yet to see what Carlos Sainz chooses for himself. The Spaniard has already given proof of his talent by becoming the only non-Red Bull Grand Prix winner in 2024. Do you think he will find similar success in his future team just like he did in Ferrari?
