It was probably not the weekend that Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz would have hoped for. But after the GP, the Spanish driver admitted he was comfortable with the car and was ready to push his F1-75 to the limits this weekend.
Speaking about the situation, former driver Marc Gene has recently placed his trust in Sainz and revealed that he looked way more comfortable in the car the past week.

When asked if it is possible for Sainz to get a race win this season, the Spaniard said, “It is. It is. Before Monaco, Barcelona in particular was really tough for him. Barcelona was probably the most difficult moment of his career and of his year. Because he did not feel comfortable with the car and could not get the potential out of the car.”
“And this weekend, for the first time this year, he had the strongest qualifying all year long even though he qualified 4th. But he was very happy with it,” added Gene.
Why did Ferrari Sign Carlos Sainz?
Sainz retired from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the early laps of the race. The Spanish driver mentioned before his retirement he was saving his tires and planning to make a push in the stint.

Sainz was running in P4 and was starting to lose his pace in the early laps of the race compared to the front runners. But he revealed he was preparing to make a push before a hydraulics leak in his F1-75 hampered his race.
“We were looking forward to start pushing after 9 laps of managing the tires and trying to have a good introduction to the tires and suddenly the hydraulics went and that was it, even more, frustrating to see Charles not finishing and have another issue, for sure a tough day for all of us,” said the Ferrari driver.

It would have been interesting to see if the Spanish driver was about to close the gap in the race to the frontrunners. But it is nice to hear that he is making progress and getting more comfortable in his Ferrari this season. Hopefully, he can be a factor in the championship and make his presence known in the title race.
