In 1988, McLaren‘s car and lineup comprising Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost was so strong that it almost made a clean sweep winning all races but one. Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger became the only non-McLaren winner that year. Cut to 2023 when Red Bull and most importantly Max Verstappen showcased a similar dominance, Ferrari came to the fans’ rescue again and Carlos Sainz won the Singapore GP. But sadly in recent times, The Maranello-based outfit has witnessed a dramatic fall from grace with their last Costructors’ Championship win coming in 2008. However, ex-Ferrari manager, Peter Windsor, has brilliant advice for the team to ensure a resurgence.

Peter Windsor, whose voice is an authority in F1, has been very vocal about all developments in the circus. While accepting that Red Bull and Verstappen will be the ones setting a benchmark for the whole grid, he let loose a psychological trick that Charles Leclerc and Co. can play with. In his latest interview with Cameron F1, he stated Ferrari is nearer to the reigning champions.

Windsor said, “I think Ferrari as I’ve said a couple of times I think they’re a little bit nearer to Red Bull than they were and I think they’ll be looking for…. if we can get the pole and we can get the lead into the first corner we can maybe start to force Red Bull into I mean to race differently about the strategy. I think that’s what Ferrari’s plan will be. They’ll be trying to make the car quick for qualifying to get the car on the front row. It’s not that it’s that difficult to overtake in Bahrain but I think it’ll be a psychological thing to get the Ferrari on the pole if they can so I think that’s one thing to look out for trying to get Leclerc up there or maybe even Carlos Sainz.”

He said, “Last year’s car, I think one of the main weaknesses was the wind sensitivity. Whenever the wind will change a tiny bit, our car will be extremely difficult to drive. Huge differences in terms of balance from one corner to the other. And this year we are in a much better place for that. So it is a step forward on that. It was wanted, we worked a lot on it, and we had the confirmation already from the first day.”
