Charles Leclerc Explains Why Baku F1 Pole Lap Was ‘Quite Sh*t’

Charles Leclerc had a Saturday to remember as the Ferrari man took pole position for the second race in a row. However, despite his surprisingly good performance, the Monegasque saw it differently. In fact, soon after Q3 ended, Charles was quick to term his pole lap as “Quite a sh*t” one.
The two-time Grand Prix winner said that his pole lap was plagued by mistakes. He believes he could have gone even faster had he not made those errors.
He said, “[In Turns] 4/5/6 I just got some snaps with the very high wind, and I just misjudged a little bit.

“[I] lost the rear in entry of Turn 4 and then Turn 6 and 7 the rear tyres were not in a good shape. But, yeah, at the end it was a decent lap anyway.”
Luckily this time around, Leclerc managed to avoid going into the barriers, which means he is good to start the race. This privilege wasn’t there for him to enjoy at the last race in Monaco when a broken driveshaft meant he couldn’t take part in his home Grand Prix.
The Ferrari’s surprise boost in performance has left many surprised, even Lewis Hamilton. However, despite being the fastest car in qualifying at Baku, Leclerc reckons it’ll be tough for him to end the race as a winner.

Charles Leclerc not optimistic about Baku result
The long, fast straights at Baku benefitted Leclerc as the Ferrari’s newfound straight-line speed was on show. However, the Monegasque reckons these very straights may be the cause of his downfall in the race.
Leclerc said, “It’s going to be very difficult to keep the first place. Here in Baku it’s very easy to overtake, so yeah, it’s going to be tricky.”

Nevertheless, just the fact that a Ferrari has a shot at winning this race is a cause for celebration in the first place. Even if Charles can make it onto the podium, the fans of the Maranello-based outfit will see it as a win.
However, this track is known to spring quite a few surprises in terms of results. Will Leclerc be the man to take home a historic win for Ferrari in Baku? Only time will tell.
