Just like the cars and everything else attached to the world of Formula 1, the drivers also need to evolve. The ever-changing sport does not allow anyone to stay stagnant and I leave those who do behind. One of the best examples to prove this hypothesis is the example of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman was extremely aggressive and reckless when he first joined F1 and earned himself the “Mad Max” nickname. However, the two-time world champion Max Verstappen of 2023 is a completely changed man. With Verstappen’s example in mind, Charles Leclerc is given crucial advice to help him achieve his championship goals, especially after the Miami GP error.

Leclerc is a monster on one lap. The Monegasque has often outwitted the best of the best during qualifying. However, piling on Ferrari’s misery, Leclerc hit the wall during the dying embers of the final qualifying session. This is exactly why, speaking on the Lift the Lid podcast, Johnny Herbert decided to give Leclerc his two cents on how to achieve his championship goals.

“It’s the same thing I suppose, Charles getting himself into those situations. Max was getting himself into those situations. Max doesn’t get himself into those situations as much as he was before. So that’s something, somehow that Charles has got to do,” said Herbert.

“As you know and everybody knows, you’ve got to push yourself to the absolute limit, when you’re in a qualifying situation. But there is also a point where you’ve got to give yourself a tiny little bit of breathing space and the ability to not overdrive. When you overdrive, that’s when you see these mistakes happen,” he concluded.

If the advice is followed, Leclerc might soon get back to championship-winning ways. If not anyone, at least the Monegasque believes in himself.

Despite Max Verstappen’s superiority, Charles Leclerc still has hope to fight for the championship

Ferrari has had an abysmal start to the season. However, despite the poor start and the superiority of the Red Bull cars, the Monegasque is not losing hope. Leclerc believes its still too early in the season to be thinking about 2024.

He said, “The season is long. We have quite a bit of upgrades coming in the next few races. Hopefully, this will help us to close the gap to Red Bull, that is for now in another league. But also Aston Martin is strong in some races so. We need to work, this we know! But in no way do we think that the title is out of reach. It’s still early on in the season.”

The Ferrari man is full of optimism. However, even marginal errors can have a massive impact in the larger scheme of things. The Miami GP error was a costly one, and something Leclerc cannot afford to repeat if he fancies his chances in the championship.
