In the past season, the Ferrari have not been as competitive as they are supposed to be. The SF1000 has been a massive disappointment in terms of pace, with both drivers barely scrounging podiums.

In 2019, the car was still reasonably competitive. This way, Charles Leclerc was able to make Lewis Hamilton sweat on a few occasions. Even Sebastian Vettel managed to sneak in a win.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic struck and there were development restrictions over the winter. With businesses brought to a standstill, teams needed to save costs, and Ferrari got the worst of it. Owing to this, their 2020 pace took a massive hit, and there is a danger of the same thing happening in 2021.

With 2021 at the horizon, the Ferrari team is working on a new engine. In light of this, Leclerc is clinging on to some hope of enjoying a better season.

“We shouldn’t have too much high expectations, but on the other hand I feel confident it will be better than this year and I really hope so,” he said. “We have done a good job in the last few races to tackle our issues, and I see how hard everyone is working in Maranello.”

He insisted that everyone back in Maranello is pushing at the maximum. Charles Leclerc also revealed that things are looking up for the Italian marquee. However, the 23-year-old insisted that everything is up in the air until the first qualifying of the season.

The Ferrari driver acknowledged that the team is confident in their abilities. However, they would prefer to err on the side of caution and not keep their expectations too high. This is largely because their rivals will hardly stay idle, and the development race is a constant battle.
