After the Monaco Grand Prix win, Charles Leclerc has shot to the peak of stardom, as he is the only local driver to win the home race. This sent waves across the borders to Italy, where he has many fans as he drives for the Italian team. Aside from having fans in Italy, the Monegasque driver is also fluent in Italian, which helps him win more hearts in Ferrari’s nation. This led him to be interviewed by LaStampa, who had more than a few questions for the Ferrari driver.

Aside from asking questions about Charles Leclerc’s career in Formula 1, the interview took a turn towards other sports, where the Ferrari driver was asked about tennis and football. Italy is big on football and with the Euros currently on, the interviewer just needed to know which team the Monegasque driver supported. Because Monaco does not have a football team, the two obvious options he had were Italy and France, as they are neighboring countries, and Leclerc’s answer won the hearts of the local fans.

After the interviewer asked Leclerc, “Will you support Italy or France at the Euros?” He revealed his motive behind the question, saying, “It’s an infallible way to finally understand if you feel a bit Italian.” Leclerc had an answer that would start off confusing but end with him answering the question. The Ferrari driver replied, saying, “Good question… I’m not a big football fan, I watch finals especially, but right now I would say I’m more on Italy.” Leclerc gave the right answer, being in Italy, but there are many French followers of him who are not happy with the answer.

This question must have been a difficult one for Charles Leclerc to answer considering, the fact that he is fluent in both Italian and French showing his connection with both countries. Ultimately, he is a Ferrari driver and it would be absolutely unfair to break the hearts of the Tifosi that have always supported him through his F1 career. To give back to his fans, Leclerc has recently made a statement saying he will be the world champion, so let’s take a look at what he had to say.

Charles Leclerc’s goal to be a Ferrari world champion

In the recent past, it’s been difficult to see Leclerc achieve the world champion title due to many reasons. Since 2020, he has been given a car that has only been close to competing with Red Bull in 2022 and this year. However, with a double DNF in Canada, they are behind on points. While talking to LaStampa, Leclerc revealed his thoughts on how he plans to achieve the title.

This is when the Ferrari driver explained, “I would give up anything to achieve it. Winning the title with Ferrari is my dream, my life’s goal.” He then explained how much it meant to him as he said, “I am ready to wait as long as necessary. I am with the team that brought me into this sport and believed in me since I was young. I will do everything to bring Ferrari back to success as soon as possible.”

For Leclerc, winning the championship is not a short-term goal. He understands the competition and is waiting for the right time to strike. As of now, he is P2 in the driver’s championship but there is still a gap to cover to reach Verstappen. Winning the Monaco Grand Prix was a goal of him that he finally achieved and if he stays dedicated and the car falls into place, he might just achieve the title too.

With that said, do you think Charles Leclerc has it in him to win a Formula 1 World Championship title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
