Red Bull’s cost cap saga has finally ended. The FIA had earlier found the champions in breach of the regulations, and now the punishment has arrived. The fans are, however, far from satisfied with the decision.

Even before FIA’s report on 2021’s cost cap arrived, rumor markets were rife with news of Red Bull violating the regulation. The rumors became reality when FIA found them guilty of going overboard by $2.2 million. Now that the sanctions for the violation have arrived, Mercedes might think their rivals have gotten away easy.

FIA’s verdict on Red Bull violation attracts fans’ fury

As reported by ESPN F1, FIA has fined Red Bull $7 million and there will be a 10% reduction in their aerodynamic research. This also means that will be no reduction in points from 2021 and Max Verstappen will retain the drivers’ championship title. The fans believe the Milton Keynes-based team has gotten away for cheap.

Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff had earlier highlighted how the breach should not be termed ‘minor’ as a minor monetary breach can have a big impact on the championship.

Toto Wolff on Red Bull’s “minor” breach

After Max Verstappen sealed his 2nd world title with a dominant showing at Suzuka, Toto Wolff opened up on Red Bull’s cost cap breach and the FIA categorizing it under “procedural and minor overspend breaches.”

Wolff said, “It is a so-called minor violation, but I believe that the definition is not completely correct. If you spend five million more than the limit, it is still a minor violation, but the impact on the championship is significant.”

Toto continued, “We always monitor closely which parts are brought to the track by the top teams in each race, and for at least two seasons, we can see that there are two top teams that are the same and another that instead spends more…”

“So you can understand spending an extra $500,000 can make a difference.”
