Toto Wolff, the team principal at Mercedes AMG F1, is a stark example of leadership personified. The Austrian business man turned his life around with his intelligence and he does the same at the german camp. Him and Lewis, they have dragged the team out of the mud.
Although his efforts are enormous within the team, he is not hungry for recognition. It is only in the 7th season of their championship that he is getting noticed and he likes it that way. However, he is the adhesive that bonds the entire team together, keeping it tight.
Mercedes has come up with a new trend where they pickup team members and let them explain their role in the team. The YouTube series features short 60 second videos, and it was Toto’s turn this time. However, the manner in which he started the video already had us laughing.

“Hi, My name is Toto Wolff and I am the chief cheerleader of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team. My job is divided between working in the office, going to meet sponsors. I enjoy going to see the ones that have been with us since a long time and we have established personal relationships,” remarked the Austrian.

Besides being in the office, Toto is also a part of the Circus party. He makes sure that he is there with his team every weekend. His presence is an extra boost to the team, and that is his takeaway from the experience.
Toto Wolff has immersed himself completely into his job. He is not only interested to work with people, he also intends to know them well. Once meditation had worked for the Austrian and he had instilled the practice in his team as well. His anecdotes, his life all portrays that he loves his job and colleagues.

“The other part is being on track. I travel to all the races simply to keep an overview of what is going on. And I enjoy that too because it is mainly working with people. I wouldn’t be able to engineer a car or design or develop a car. But I’m trying to provide a framework that works for all of us.

“This team has established a very close bond. It has become a camaraderie and that team spirit has kept us winning,” concluded Wolff.
Well, with a bond so well bred and members so close, at his time to part, Toto will have a tough time. He is the thread that holds the fabric of the team together. His close friend and 7 time champ, Lewis thus feels apprehensive about a Mercedes without Toto. Will it be the same? Well, Toto says it will be.
