There are many expectations that naturally come after a team performs the way Red Bull did in 2021. Not only did they end the dominance of Mercedes at the end of a Formula 1 era, they also raised the bar in terms of small details that make a big difference. For instance, pit stops. Throughout the 2021 season, Red Bull gave us some astonishingly quick pit stops. However in 2022, that could change according to team principal Christian Horner.
Horner revealed that in the coming season, Red Bull won’t be making or breaking any records when it comes to pit stops. Much of that is down to the fact that the 2022 cars will be wearing bigger wheels, and bigger wheels mean more weight.
“It will definitely have an impact on the pit-stops – the tyres and wheels are heavier, more bulky, and so having got the world record at 1.82 seconds I don’t think we will be challenging it in this first year with these wheels,” the team principal said.

“It will be about adapting and refining our techniques and I’m pretty sure we can get close to two-second stops even with these wheels and tyres.”
Red Bull aims to build on the 2021 exploits, says Christian Horner

“The target is to try and retain the title, and the big unknown is, have we missed something with these regulations, has another team stolen the march because of the focus and effort that went into 2021.”
