One of the biggest surprises this season was Nyck de Vries’ excellent maiden F1 outing in Monza this year. The Dutch driver finished in points (P9) as he replaced the sick Alex Albon. However, fans were in for an even bigger shock as they learned the reality behind Nyck’s name.

The Dutch driver was a hot property ever since he finished in points on his F1 debut. Hence, it was no surprise that AlphaTauri snapped the services of the Dutch driver. He will replace Alpine-bound Pierre Gasly and partner Yuki Tsunoda next season.

But fans were left stunned when they learned the shocking reality that Nyck’s real name is something entirely different. The real name of the Dutchman is Hendrik Johannes Nicasius “Nyck” de Vries.

De Vries is a former Formula E and Formula 2 champion and most recently, he was a Silver Arrows’ reserve driver. His story of attaining the prestigious F1 seat is one for the fairytale. De Vries, now 27 will be looking forward to driving in F1 and showing everyone just what they’ve been missing.

Despite moving to the sister club of their rival team Red Bull, Mercedes wished Nyck nothing but the best for his future. Whether he adjusts to the demanding nature of F1 or not remains to be seen.

Among the many rookies making their full-time F1 debut next season, Nyck has decided he will drive the number 21 car. However, it wasn’t the choice of his car number that was making the news. The Dutchman left many fans astonished as they learned that AlphaTauri’s latest recruit’s real name is not Nyck de Vries.

Consequently, some fans questioned who named the Dutchman Hendrik Johannes. Meanwhile, another fan said, “So you tell me Nyck de Vries is not his real name?”

More fans expressed their surprise as they learned about Nyck’s real name.
