Recently, Aston Martin Racing pulled off an unexpected move following the exit of Otmar Szafnauer, former team principal and one of the most trusted members of the British outfit. Many anticipated AMR to hand over Szafnauer’s role to the newly recruited Martin Whitmarsh.

The ex-McLaren CEO has a strong history of handling multiple roles at the same time. Hence, it almost looked like Aston Martin would do the same with the 63-year-old Briton. But, then arrived a shocking turnaround, as Lawrence Stroll, instead, appointed Mike Krack, the former Sauber BMW F1 team head.

This left many wondering, how on earth did Aston Martin find Krack amongst other prominent team leaders? Well, there is a possibility that Sebastian Vettel might have played a hand in this unusual union. How you might ask? Well, the four-time world champion and the former Sauber engineer have already worked together in the past.

Vettel began his F1 career as a test driver at BMW and Krack was then the chief engineer of BMW Sauber.

Vettel & Krack join together at Aston Martin

According to AMUS, Krack opened up that he is excited to work with Vettel for the first time in over a decade. “I’ve been in the world of motorsport for more than 20 years and worked with Seb Vettel back in 2006 and 2007 when I was a BMW Sauber engineer and he was the Team test driver,” he said.
