There is no denying that the Monaco Grand Prix revels in its own memories every year; For instance, it was Serena Williams waving the chequered flag in 2021, and Justin Bieber hanging out with the race winner, Lewis Hamilton, on the podium in 2016. And, on top of such star-studded memories, Monaco houses one of the greatest-ever moments featuring Daniel Ricciardo and NFL legend, Tom Brady.

It was the 2018 Monaco GP weekend, and Ricciardo was absolutely flying on all days as he eventually went on to secure the pole position for Sunday’s main race. Of course, the redemption-seeking Australian then led the race from the front to complete the astonishing weekend with a victory.

However, looking back, would Ricciardo consider that the best Monaco memory of his Formula One career? Well, although one might assume it’s a rhetorical question, it indeed is quite tricky to answer.

Yes, Ricciardo finally managed to clinch his much-yearned victory in Monaco, especially after Red Bull squandered his chances with a horrendous pit stop in 2016. But, right before the race, something far more interesting unfolded between Ricciardo and one of the weekend’s VIP guests, Brady.

Daniel Ricciardo & Tom Brady engage in an unforgettable moment

As part of a promotional event, the Honey Badger and Brady stood on yachts parked yards away from each other. The American had a football in his hand and launched a crazy pass to Ricciardo. The odds of Ricciardo fluffing the pass were quite high but, the then Red Bull driver defied the odds to complete a flying catch.

Obviously, I met Brady and that was amazing and awesome. But it would have felt like a bandwagon,” he told ESPN. “The Brady pass was surreal. Not just to receive the pass, but to do yacht to yacht was crazy. First one I caught, then I got cocky and said ‘let’s go further [back]’. We reversed the boat, and I didn’t quite catch the next couple.

Ricciardo further revealed why he picked Buffalo Bills over other superior teams as his favorite. “Everyone was Brady and Patriots, so I thought I’d do something a little different,” he added.

I forced myself not to go for a California team, I was like, let’s change it up a little. I thought I’m going to go for something a little out of the box.”
