Life hasn’t gone according to plan ever since Daniel Ricciardo gave up his seat at Red Bull. Known for his overtaking prowess, and off-the-track antics, Ricciardo might not be loving his racing graph ever since Red Bull. Currently, in the second season with Mclaren, Ricciardo has only one win for the team so far. And a poor start to the current 2022 season hasn’t have helped either.

However, Daniel has a positive outlook toward the next season and is expecting big changes in the car and for the season as well. Making a bold claim he thinks a win for Mclaren won’t be surprising.

Daniel Ricciardo claims Mclaren can still win in the 2022 season

Daniel thinks even after a poor start to the 2022 season, they can still turn things around. With just six points to their name so far, thanks to teammate Lando Norris’s seventh-place finish at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Mclaren would require a boat load of changes to their MCL36 to compete with the rest of the grid having been only the eighth fastest car on the grid.

Regardless, Daniel has kept himself positive and said, “But without getting ahead [of ourselves], if we were to come and win a race at some point this year, I wouldn’t actually be surprised because I still believe in the team and the process we have in place and the people we have in place to get the job done.”

He added, “I have 100% faith and belief in people like Andreas [Seidl, team principal].”

Hopefully, Ricciardo’s faith in the team translates into a better car over the coming weeks, which would make Mclaren a little more competitive. The drivers complained about a lack of downforce and therefore grip in the earlier part of the season. One of the many changes Mclaren needs to make is to get themselves more competitive.

It’s not over until it’s over

Still hopeful about the future, Ricciardo is being level-headed and sensible in managing expectations for himself and the team. While discussing the home, Australian Grand Prix, Ricciardo has lowered expectations.

Ricciardo said, “Australia is flowing so perhaps that comes to us again and maybe we could fight for points. I know that’s not aiming very high, but that’s really all we can aim for now until we get some big updates. Anything inside the top 10 we’ll take as a little victory for now.”

Down on their luck so far, Daniel’s victory in Monza brought an end to an eight-year-long win drought for Mclaren. Surely, with the right car, there will be more of that.
