Daniel Ricciardo Pokes Fun at Himself on His Lack of Mechnical Knowledge

Daniel Ricciardo is one of the most likable drivers on the grid. He is also known for his banters with the drivers, teams, and media personnel. Despite being in the sport for over a decade, the Aussie driver has mentioned he is not really good at anything other than driving. In a newly released clip, Ricciardo can be seen showcasing his engineering and mechanical skills.

Formula One is a very complex sport. It has the most high-performing and proficient engineers in the world. Even the drivers are aerodynamically and mechanically capable. But not the honey badger. He poked fun at himself by stating he would be useless if a car broke down on the highway.

” I have no idea what I’m looking at. My job is to drive, and that’s it. So I then just put all my energy into that. My friends give me a hard time because they know if we’re on a highway and our car breaks down, they’ve got a better chance at fixing the car than I do. They’re like ‘you drive the most sophisticated cars in the world, yet, you know nothing.’ So I’m kinda proud of about that. I’m good.” said the McLaren driver.

It looks Ricciardo might have turned a corner in his 2021 season. Since the start of the second half of the season, he has taken huge strides and performed really well with the team. He even won the Italian Grand Prix with the team and looks like he is finally got to grips with the car.

I think everyone’s getting settled in the team and I think they’re just kind of growing with each other. So, just a good group: a good group of lads and Sheilas!” said Ricciardo.

Since the summer break, Daniel has finished in P4 twice and took McLaren‘s first win since 2012 Brazil. He has also out-qualified his teammate 3 out of 4 times.
