Mick Schumacher had to fill in his father, Michael Schumacher’s shoes to solidify a place in F1. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and the young German was left without a seat for 2023. However, it looks like Daniel Ricciardo has an even bigger task at his hands if he wants to secure a 2024 Red Bull seat and replace Sergio Perez. What is this task?

Daniel Ricciardo is back. Not with a top team, but with the sister team of Red Bull. Daniel Ricciardo was selected as Nyck de Vries’ replacement after the Dutchman was sacked by the team. Many questions are being raised about why Ricciardo would want to make a comeback with arguably the slowest team on the grid. However, there’s a long-term gain for Ricciardo.

Sergio Perez’s performance has fallen off after the first 5 races of the season. The Mexican has failed to make it to Q3 5 times in a row now in the fastest car on the grid. Many believed that the Honey Badger would replace him. Nonetheless, after Ricciardo showed great pace at the Pirelli tire test, it is suggested the remaining season at AlphaTauri be a test for Ricciardo to ace if he wants a 2024 Red Bull seat.

Now, many of you may ask what the criteria to pass the test is. According to @formuladirecta’s Tweet, Ted Kravitz has revealed the criteria. Kravitz said, “Knowing the quality of Daniel Ricciardo, he would surpass Yuki Tsunoda pretty quickly just on experience and skill. If AlphaTauri comes last, it would be a calamity for Red Bull. If Ricciardo can avoid it, he will have done the job they wanted him to do and thus be in a good position to potentially compete for Checo Perez’s seat.” [Translated Via Google]

Yuki Tsunoda has shown this season that he’s a super quick driver pushing that slow AlphaTauri in the points a couple of times. However, knowing Daniel Ricciardo from the old days, we know how much pace the Australian has. Ted Kravitz further suggested why Sergio Perez might be worried about Daniel Ricciardo.

Sergio Perez worried about Daniel Ricciardo taking his seat away

Sergio Perez did pretty well in the first 5 races of the season and looked like a title contender. But god only knows what has happened to the Mexican who has failed to make it to Q3 on the last 5 occasions. Sergio Perez brings a load of sponsorship with him to Red Bull. However, if Ricciardo does prove his mettle at AlphaTauri, the Mexican’s seat will be in danger.

According to SkySports.com, Ted Kravitz said, “Even though Checo brings a lot of sponsorship and there are a lot of merchandise opportunities, the selling of Red Bull stuff in Mexico to Mexican fans… he may well be worried if Red Bull decide to go the Ricciardo way If he turns out to be the man who turns AlphaTauri around.”
