It was only last month when the Lawrence Stroll-led consortium made a series of investments in Aston Martin. The investments worth around $2 million saw his stake in the company rise to 23 percent. However, facing a potential aggressive takeover threat, the consortium has upped its investment, which could shake things up in the company in the future.

Before the start of 2022, Yew Tree Overseas Ltd, owned 19 percent of the shares in Aston Martin. The investment company is led by Lawrence Stroll. The Yew Tree consortium now includes business magnates like JCB’s Lord Anthony Bamford, Hong Kong billionaire Silas Chou, telecommunications billionaire John McCaw, and biotech billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli.

The consortium’s latest investment has seen its share in Aston Martin rise to 28.29 percent. As per reports, the total value of investments ever since the start of 2022 is worth 50 million pounds ($60.61 million). The move is an attempt to reach the 29.99 percent share. This will trigger a mandatory offer to buy the remaining shares. The move is also a potential attempt to stave off the takeover threat from the Chinese car manufacturer Geely. Geely currently owns 7.6 percent of the firm.

As per Autocar UK, Lawrence Stroll after last month’s investment said, “As a group of investors we share a firm belief that Aston Martin is undervalued and that, despite the recent supply chain challenges, it is well set to continue its growth trajectory in the ultra-luxury high performance automotive business.

The addition of Fernando Alonso makes Sebastian Vettel a distant memory

An F1 team requires experienced reliable drivers to help them develop the car. That is exactly what Fernando Alonso brings to the table. The team’s technical director Dan Fallows recently praised Alonso for the smooth transition since Sebastian Vettel’s departure.

Speaking with select media including GP Fans, Fallows told, “It is important to the team that from a technical perspective we have drivers who are able to give good feedback.”

“That is very important for us. We are very fortunate in that Lance [Stroll] is very good in that respect as well,” he added. “I don’t think by Seb [Vettel] leaving that we are missing anything particularly.”

“As I say, in Lance we have a driver who is able to drive the car, and clearly Fernando [Alonso] has a huge amount of experience and has a proven track record of doing that as well.”
